My Story

In early 2006, I had a sudden onset of mysterious symptoms: chronic back pain, body aches, fatigue, joint stiffness, depression, anxiety, sensory sensitivities, cognitive issues, and severe gut issues. Multiple doctors and specialists told me there was nothing wrong with me.

Fast forward to 2012. After yet another blackout from the pain, I awoke on the floor in my bedroom and felt hallowed out. I became determined to not let these so-called ‘experts’ tell me there was nothing wrong.

Soon after, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My life changed at that moment. While I cried for the loss of who I was, I embraced who I was going to become – a mom who would find a way to raise a family while living with fibromyalgia.

My 'Why'

In the six years between the onset of symptoms and diagnosis, I suffered physically and mentally. I found myself in a dark place, feeling like a failure to my kids and myself. At the time, I had four children under the age of six, and it was taking every ounce of energy to care for them. I wanted a better quality of life for them and me, but I didn’t know how.

I turned to the online community to help navigate parenting and fibromyalgia, but there was an overwhelming amount of misinformation about fibromyalgia and virtually nothing about parenting with fibromyalgia. It left me feeling alone and hopeless.

In 2013, I created my blog, Being Fibro Mom, and I felt hopeful. It was an opportunity to create positive change and give hope to all the fibromyalgia parents that were struggling and suffering just as I was. My hope was that we could help one another find strategies for parenting and managing symptoms to be the parent we ultimately wanted to be.

Through my journey, I created Fibromyalgia Parenting to empower other fibro parents and help them to embrace their parenting journey.
